Zion National Park Getaway
Cedar City is a great alternative lodging location for a vacation in Zion National Park
When booking your Zion National Park vacation, consider staying at one of the Abbey Inn Hotel Group’s St. George and Cedar City hotel properties. Our St. George locations include the Best Western Travel Inn, the Best Western Coral Hills and the Best Western Abbey Inn. Our other motel is the Abbey Inn of Cedar City. All of our Southern Utah motels provide guests with an outdoor heated pool, hot tub, exercise room and guest laundry. All of our hotels’ rooms include a refrigerator, a microwave, a hair dryer, a coffee maker and a television with access to free premium cable channels such as Disney and HBO.
Lodging in Cedar City makes an ideal headquarters for a Zion National Park vacation. Cedar City is a little over an hour from Zion Canyon, the park’s most popular area, but it is only 20 minutes from the park’s Kolob Canyon section, a less-visited, but no less spectacular spectacle of towering sandstone monoliths and narrow canyons. Kolob Canyons features a visitor center, a five-mile scenic drive with many pullouts for sightseeing and three trails. The Taylor Creek Trail is Kolob Canyons’ most popular path. It follows a streambed past two historic cabins to a scenic double arch alcove featuring hanging gardens and colorful streaks on the surrounding rock. The LaVerkin Creek Trail, accessed from the Lee Pass Trailhead, is a seven-mile trek to Kolob Arch, one of the longest-spanning arches on earth. Located at the end of the scenic drive, the short Timber Creek Overlook Trail offers views of the nearby Pine Valley Mountains.
Making Cedar City your base camp on your Zion National Park vacation will also put you near other popular attractions, including Cedar Breaks National Monument, Navajo Lake, Brian Head Resort, the Parowan Gap, and Iron Mission State Park. Lodging at the Abbey Inn of Cedar City will put you only three blocks from Southern Utah University, the host of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. An award-winning showcase of Shakespeare’s works as well as contemporary plays, the Utah Shakespearean Festival has been delighting audiences for more than four decades. The Abbey Inn of Cedar City offers three different Utah Shakespearean Festival packages, as well as special rates for skiers taking advantage of Brian Head Resort’s famous Utah powder. A Zion National Park vacation based in Cedar City should include more than just a visit to the park itself!
